Monster and Consorte Media Form Alliance to Connect Employers with More Hispanic Job Seekers

October 30, 2007
VIA PRWEB

Monster® and Consorte Media today announced an alliance to connect Monster's customers with a greater share of the online Hispanic market. Monster is the leading global online careers and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc., and Consorte is the first company to develop a platform for reaching the more than 20 million online Hispanics in the U.S.

As part of the alliance, Monster and Consorte have launched Career Latino (http://careerlatino.monster.com/), a co-branded career website that gives employers an effective way to reach more Hispanic job seekers. The co-branded site will be a part of Consorte Media's extensive network of sites and independent blogs, focused on the Hispanic market, which includes large content sites as well as hundreds of smaller, niche properties.

"Currently, Monster has approximately 1.8 million registered seekers who self-identify as Hispanic, demonstrating impressive reach among this demographic," noted Steve Pemberton, chief diversity officer, Monster. "Our alliance with Consorte Media will help employers connect with additional Hispanic job seekers by enhancing their advertising visibility among both passive and active online candidates who visit sites falling within Consorte's network."

"Consorte Media is committed to helping customers and partners reach a diverse audience," said Alicia Morga, founder and CEO of Consorte Media. "Consorte's alliance with Monster further validates our premise that there is tremendous demand to connect with the Hispanic audience online, and that reaching this diverse community requires a targeted approach. We look forward to working with Monster to help its customers engage an even wider range of online Hispanics."

In addition to the opportunities afforded by the co-branded career site, Monster will also offer customers ad inventory from Consorte's Hispanic network.

Should Hispanic Professionals Pursue Careers with Companies Lacking Strong Diversity Policies?

July 24, 2007
By Juan Guillermo Tornoe

One of LatPro's readers sent me this question:

Q: "What would be your advice for a Hispanic professional to further his career if an opportunity arises in a company that offers a great career opportunity, but they may not have a strong diversity policy?

My experience with my last employer (a Fortune 500 company) was very productive, and I reached some professional and diversity goals. I led the Latino Employee Network Group, and I became a Sr. Art Director in three of the company's business groups serving worldwide markets. Now I am seeking the next opportunity to take my career to the next level, and wonder how I can still leverage the same passion for Latino issues. I am finding out not all companies place the same importance on diversity. "

Should Employers Give Hiring Preference to Hispanic Job Candidates?

June 15, 2007
By Juan Guillermo Tornoe

One very important requirement in today's business world is being able to interact with an increasingly diverse group of consumers (both culturally and linguistically). In the United States, the largest minority group is of Latino heritage.

As an employer, you may be looking for Hispanic employees for a variety of reasons. You might want to hire staff members who can better connect culturally with Latino clients. You may want employees who can converse with Spanish-speaking vendors, associates or clients within the U.S. or internationally. You might be trying to diversify your workforce so it is a better reflection of the overall population. Or perhaps you're trying to fill a specific position and some of the job applicants just happen to be Hispanic. Any of these ring a bell? They should if you are making hiring decisions in the United States today.

Hiring Hispanic “Switch Hitters” is Key to Business Growth in the Hispanic Market

I'm glad to share with you my most recent article for Hispanic jobs site LatPro.com.  It appears under their Diversity Hiring and Management Articles.

Here's the intro

Why should your company be concerned with the Hispanic market? The short answer: because 15% of the total U.S. population is currently of Hispanic descent. By the year 2050, one in four people living in the United States will be a Latino.

Other ethnic/racial groups are also rapidly expanding. All in all, the intertwinement of these growing minority groups with the traditionally defined mainstream, is defining a new “general market” that is quite different from the one your parents (or even you, depending on your generation) experienced not so long ago.

Hispanic Culture at Work: Understanding and Managing Hispanic Employees

By Juan Guillermo Tornoe

Latpro I have been blessed with the opportunity to write a monthly column for LatPro.com’s Employer Section on Diversity Hiring and Management. This month, April 2007, I am honored and humbled to share with you the first one. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Martin Ruiz, Eric Shannon, and Mesia Quartano for their trust and support. God bless y’all!

Here are the first couple of lines:

As a non-Hispanic employer or manager, you may be wondering how cultural differences might affect your work environment when you bring Latino employees into your organization.

By taking the time to familiarize yourself with some common Hispanic cultural traits, you will be able to better understand and interact with Hispanic staff members, creating a more inclusive and comfortable atmosphere for everyone.

Indulge me for a moment and let me share my first-hand experience as a bilingual Latino professional.
