Press Release
If you’re wondering what drives Daisy Fuentes when it comes to her body, it’s not the opinion of others. At least, not anymore. This month’s cover star is featured in a new column in Fitness’ August issue titled: Fit At Any Age.

Excerpts from the interview follow:
WHAT’S BETTER AT AGE 41?: “The way I feel. Being comfortable with who I am and caring less about the opinions of others as to what I should look like. I don’t care about fitting into any specific kind of category that society puts people into. I care about what’s best for me. I can’t say that was the same when I was younger. I was very influenced by a lot of outside forces, there’s so much being told to women as how they should look, how they should act, what they should be like, what size is the right size. You can’t help but let that help you. But that doesn’t affect me anymore. That’s very freeing. And it feels great.”
WHAT SHE’D SAY TO SOMEONE WHO SAID, YOU’RE A CELEB, OF COURSE YOU LOOK HOT ALL THE TIME?: “It’s hard work. I do work at it. To be in this business and look good--I really do work hard. What’s best for my skin, eat healthy, it takes discipline. It’s not easy for me.”
WHAT’S EASIER AT 41?: [When I was younger] my motivation was coming more from a vanity place. Now, being in this business, it’s more about health for me. I want to be a healthy, active, older woman. I want to age gracefully. It makes a big difference. The activity in your lifestyle, when you’re in your 30s and 40s really have an impact as you get older and that’s going to determine if you look great when you’re fifty. It’s about staying healthy,…You do have to change. You do have to acknowledge it to yourself. It doesn’t get any easier but you can definitely get more easier…Being motivated to be healthier is easier.
WHAT’S TOUGH AT 41: “Traveling. It really takes it out of me. When I was 22, I could get off the Red Eye and go on set. Now it’s too hard. I need my rest, I need my beauty sleep.”
WHAT OUTFIT MAKES YOU FEEL THE MOST CONFIDENT?: Jeans and tank top. It’s my favorite look…I think if you’ve got it together enough and you’re confident and secure with yourself, you should feel as sexy and glamorous in a tee-shirt
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ON THE COVER OF FITNESS TODAY VS. THE COVER SHE SHOT FOR THE MAGAZINE IN 1993?: “Anyone can to do one of those covers when you’re young and cute. It was more challenging and it meant more to be able to do this now and represent my age. Most of the girls on covers today are 18 or 21, 22. That’s wonderful, but who isn’t cute at that age? It meant more to me to be asked to do such a cover at 40/41 than when I was that young.
WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW THAT YOU COULDN’T DO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?: “I can snowboard. I learned when I was 40. I’m very proud of that. It was something I just sort of said, I can do this. I put it off for a long time, I was going to Aspen a lot. I just thought, I don’t need to go up the mountain. Why can’t I do this? I thought I’m too old. I should have started doing this when I was 13 or 20. And I just went for it. When I started, my instructor was in his 50s, he’d always been a ski instructor and he only learned how to snowboard at 40 and now he’s an instructor. So I said I can totally do this.”
WHAT’S THE BEST AGE-PROOF ADVICE YOU EVER GOT?: “Staying out of the sun. The damage is done. It’s hard to stay out of the sun. My mom did, but I ignored her.”
FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCT?: Sunscreen moisturizer: DuWop Revolution SPF 15. It covers the imperfections, it has SPF and a bronze glow.
ON AGING: “That’s one of the best things about being older. I’m comfortable with who I am, and I don’t care about fitting into any specific category or size. I can’t say that was always the case… It’s easy to be cute when you’re young But I’m so much happier with the way I look now.”
ON KEEPING FIT: “I eat well and exercise regularly because down the road I want to continue to be active.”
FOR PHOTO SHOOTS, SHE KICKS THINGS UP A NOTCH, ESPECIALLY WHEN POSING IN A BIKINI!: “I added workouts and used weights and a stability ball in my Pilates sessions. It’s FITNESS, for God’s sake! I wanted to be as fit as I can be and represent my age well.”
HER WORKOUT: “I’m definitely not a cardio-machine girl—I have a treadmill in my garage, but I don’t really use it. I need to be having fun, so I play tennis and go for long hikes in the hills just five minutes from my backyard. With my trainer, we mix it up and do different things, including kickboxing.”
HER HAPPY DIET: “Thin-crust margarita pizza and champagne. One of the reasons I bought my house was because it has a wood-burning oven in which I can make pizza!”
ON CONFIDENCE: “I’m like everyone else. Some days you wake up feeling great about yourself. Some days not so much. My trick is to always do the best I can. It’s fortifying knowing you’ve done everything you could to treat your body right.”
